Then we have the Q series of metal building kits derived from the beloved Quonset hut design. As history tells us, these metal building kits were designed to provide lightweight, portable battlefield troop and equipment storage and were quickly adapted for use as hospitals, latrines and dental clinics. Quonset huts proved to be so popular that returning servicemen purchased many of the surplus buildings after the war for use as personal housing. Universities also purchased surplus units for overflow student housing. Metal building kits are not limited to these four design series, however.
